I. Sociology Wiki Assignment
I developed this assignment to take advantage of BlackBoard’s Wiki tool as part of MIT’s Faculty Course titled “Learning Landscape”.
Software Used: BlackBoard
Published File Type: Pdf
Topic: The Sociology of Propaganda Wiki Assignment
Goal: The goal of this wiki is to provide you with the opportunity to increase their critical evaluation of media. Additionally this project is designed to provide you with the experience with the wiki tool so that you will be ready to create your own wiki later in the semester.
Objective: Given a previously unseen example of media the student will be able to apply the 7 major devices of propaganda:
- Name-calling
- Glittering generalities
- Transfer
- Testimonial
- Plain folks
- Card stacking
- Bandwagon
to the approved topic as outlined in The Analysis of Propaganda: A Clinical Summary (JSTOR LINK opens new window ).
Directions: You have been assigned to a group (see below for your group assignments). Each group will cover a topic within a specific field of inquiry. Topics for consideration are: The War in Iraq, The Pro-Life Movement, The Government Bailout of Wall Street, The 2008 Election Cycle, The Environmental Movement. Once you have your group assignment it is up to your group as a COLLECTIVE to select a topic with in your assigned field. This topic is subject to the approval of the instructor.
The structure and content of your wiki is up to you and your group.
Here are some quotes to help guide you……
